how is it hooked up now? i would persume its neg. ground by the time these tractors came out. how is the coil hooked up?
 
You mean negative ground?

1. Swap the + and - cables on the battery so the - is connected to the frame.
2. Swap the connections on the ammeter.
3. Repolarize the generator.

If it's all the original mechanically-regulated electrical system it is not sensitive to polarity. You can switch back and forth no problem. Can't do that with anything electronic/solid state, though.

If youre asking how to change to NEG Ground ???

You would swap/reverse ammeter connections,,,,,,,,,swap/reverse coil leads,,,,,,,,,Polarize the genny (BEFORE starting)

HOWEVER unless you have an elec ignition or some other elec components that require NEG ground, why convert ???? it can work and charge at either polarity once you do the above

NOTE some VR's are designed specific for POS or NEG ground
