My re-man 6V generator is a three terminal type.
Can I wire it the same as the original one wire set-up with a cut out relay?
Or do I need to use all three terminals with a volt reg.
Also re-man starter has mounting holes for the solenoid. Can I wire as before with single cable to bat?
All 2N with an 8N motor.

1, your 2n starter did not have a single cable that ran to the bat.. it had a single cable that ran to the start switch, then a cable that ran to the bat. yes.. you can hook it up the same way.

2, generator.. if it's a 3 terminal type it likely needs a vreg, unless it is an adjustable 3rd brush type. is this the early 3 brush type you got? if so make sure you get the correct regulator.

tarter is not a problem, wire as you suggested directly to manual start switch, but........the generator is a "maybe". Unless it has the 3rd brush AND the associated HI/LO adjuster screw on the rear end plate, then you will be forced to go to a regulator instead of a cut out, otherwise you will overcharge the battery, ruining the battery & possibly doing harm to the generator over time. Some early 3 terminal 8N gens did have adjustable 3rd brush, but their quantity makes it less likely that you stumbled onto one.

Later: just read SouNdguy's near simultaneous post...even those early 8N 3 brush units used a regulator & as he said, a different reg than later non-3 brush units. It might have enough HI/LO adjustment to use with a cut out, but why try it, as a reg is a better soultion.

If it were me I would go to a generator and starter shop[independent ,it seems nowadays"mom&pop" does not compute}and have the tech recommend a reg,and/or buy one from them.that way,if anything goes wrong,you can take it back to him[or her]and get answers.Also put a 20-30amp blade fuse in line with gen-bat.---lha
