geny not charging

I looked at other posts not helping me. 52 8N side mount dis. Ive done the motor test and the geny spins "slow". 3 Wire gen. Replaced V reg. and polarized it still nothing. Checked continuity on all wires to geny. Can any one tell me what I should do next.

I have a 1948 8N front mount.

They tell me that the generator won't even begin to charge until somewhere about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. It won't charge at idle.

Plowboy.......didja check the COMMUTATOR??? They eventually gitt CARBON from the brushes. Fine sandpaper to remove the DARK stuff. ......Dell

(quoted from post at 18:12:28 04/11/11) I have not had it apart yet. I thought it should charge if it motored. cant get any power out of it.
t should. So, are you absolutely certain that all wire on reg & gen go where they are supposed to go? What is your observation/indication that it is not charging/ You can verify generator charging by removing current connections & replacing them temporarily with a jumper from gen-field to ground AND from gen -ARM to the always-hot-terminal on the terminal block. There will be no regulation and if left like this & not running, it will discharge battery thru the generator...so make it temporary.

Took Geny apart cleaned amr. put together and worked fine. The beter news was the Geny. must have been rebuilt some time in the past new field windings and brushes:) I miss understud the moter test I thought that if the Geny. motered that it would charge. Thanks for the help!

t is simply a reversal of in/out mechanical/electrical.....first one yet that wouldn't gen if motored.........but then I wasn't there. Glad it is working for you though.
