Getting pretty dry around here

Here in central Kansas we were doing fairly decent moisture-wise until April came around. Only have had a couple rains of less than 1/4" each since right here around our place. There will be lots of short wheat this year. On the other hand, we haven't had to deal with the storms that normally come around this time of year. Seems like all the nasty stuff is to the east and south of here.

Could be worse, though. I drove through western Kansas over the Easter weekend and things out there are really grim; we don't have much to complain about compared to the folks there. In a lot of fields around Garden City it looks like only a fraction of the wheat ever came up and what is there is essentially worthless.

Dang, I hate to hear that! No one and I repeat No one needs any problems this year...I just heard they blew the levees this morning, I do not know what to make of all of that...

Wife has an uncle in Lakin, KS and he keeps telling us how dry this year is. In southern Indiana where we live, it is a little wetter. We have had 18" in April and it is raining now. Last year, it was hot and dry here also.

We both live on US-50, about 1000 miles apart.

I have a water line in a conduit at 5' deep under the drive so if my water line breaks, I can easily pull it out. It has a hole at a coupling after the turn at the bottom and lets water in. It has been a continuous water fountain so water table is high and a lot of pressure down there. It is not a line leak because I have it disconnected at the pump fitting and no leaks there.

strange how that works,here in okla seems like if your east of I-35 youve got too much rain,west of I35 aint got any.We've had a 1 7/10 the last two weeks and thats it since sept last year,besides what little the snows brought in.Been way below normal for the last 5-6 years or so.Cyclic type thing around here though,pretty much can count on a drought every thirty years or so if you look back.got letters from folks back in 1896 talking about the dust blowing so bad they couldnt see,then the 30s, late 60s early 70s,then it started again about 2005,so if it holds true to form we got a ways to go yet,that 2012 buisness may have some merit,LOL,this year and next should be the driest the way i figure.Odd how it seems to come around regular and folks are always surprised.guess their like me,i'll never make another,and i figure the next bunch will have it to do through.lots of folk baling their wheat up around here because their afraid that may be all the hay they get.some places youve got to look close to see the windrows its so thin.I imagine a lot will put in kaffir corn to have some feed.

Quit yer griping! At least long enough to listen to me gripe a bit about how freakin wet it is here in PA. Lol We can't seem to get more then one day a week without rain and nothing except grass can grow when it's this wet.

Wish I could send all the rain your way for a couple weeks.

I hear ya! My sister lives in State College, PA and I occasionally look at what the weather is doing in her part of the world. Looks like things have been pretty wet lately. I'm sure the folks along the Mississippi would be glad to share some of their water, too.

Here in FAR SW Kansas it is dryer than a popcorn f####---- We had 2 tenths about a week ago. Crop estimators were out and guesstimate wheat crop at 5-10 bushel/acre --- if we get some moisture.
When I say far SW Kansas I mean far!!! We are 8 miles from Oklahoma and 20 From
Colorado.
