Glazed cluch plates

I have a 1957 JD 420, I recently replace a lot of parts on the right side final drive. The steering clutch had been froze up for quite a few years. I broke everything loose and it seemed o.k. until I put the tractor under power and the clutch is now slipping. The plates and facings measure out like they are brand new, however they will not grab. When I took everything back apart the facings look very smooth(glazed over) is there a way to clean or rough these up or do I need new ones. Or could it be the pressure plate if the push out bearing was pushing against it for years. I there a way the check the springs on the pressure plate, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I always took mine to a place to have them glass-beaded/sandblasted to remove the glaze.

Did you set the pressure plate finger height with a JD7 gauge?

Wash the plates with vinegar; let them set over night with the vinegar on the surface. Works on cylinder liners to.
