Gleaner corn heads?

So I have an F2 and the neighbor has some corn he wants to shell. I can't find a black 430 head near me. How much difference is
there between the black ones and the orange ones? Keep in mind that this is not big time farming. I would just like to get some
more use out of my combine.

People cuss the orange ones for all the chains underneath.

Not really a big deal, keep them in shape or replaced and snugged up and the orange head will do a lot of small time corn for years. I used one for decades,

Oh, and have a lot of grease on hand and use the gun a lot.

black heads are preferable, most of them are adjustable by about 4 inches. the orange heads are not quite as low profile and the ear deflectors are bolted on whereas the black head they simply fit into a slot. For small acerages it matters little, the orange heads are higher maintenance but the black heads with the sliding couplers and bevel gear drives are more expensive to rebuild.

How many acres are you talking about ?? 60 vrs. 500 is a huge discrepancy ?? We've run both on an F2, they both have their pro's and cons, it's all about the acres :-)
