Gleaner K sick

Due to ongoing rain, i was finally able to get the rest of last years corn picked. I ran the Gleaner K (6cyl GM motor) a couple weeks ago and everything was good, this past week it would spit and sputter under a load or letting the clutch out then run smooth. It has a new fuel filter, but i noticed it was only half full of gas when running, i'm thinking maybe fuel pump going? Air filter is good, did not see anything wrong with the electrical system.

Sometimes carburetor icing can be a problem if the temp is at a certain level. It will run rich if this happens. Try removing the precleaner from the air intake.

It's not uncommon to see a fuel filter in operation that's only half full, some air is trapped, yet fuel flows just fine.

You need a fuel pump pressure tester to "T" into the gas line at the carb, look for it maintaining probably 5 to 9 psi while the engine is faltering, if the fuel pump is doing it's job.

Then, you'll know whether to replace it or move on to other causes.

when it starts skipping try choking it a little if it has a manual choke, if it clears up carb needs cleaning or if it the carb has an accelerator pump in it that could be bad causing it skip when accelerated, if the cap and wires appear ok,check the underside of the rotor button for a burnt place, pull the plugs and have a look at them if not fouled or burnt up i would replace the points and condenser as the new ones today aren't what they use to be

Sounds like dirt in the carb bowl. Take top off and gently wipe then blow bowl out. I would do this before getting to carried away.
