GM alternator question??

My 1985 Cadi Alternator was howling when I got home last night. I put the car in the garage and THEN the alternator light came on with the car off. I took a temp reading of the alternator, it was around 250 degrees. Is it rebuildable by a shop or should I buy a brand new one. Cost isn't an issue. Thanks!!

Reman is the way to go.More than likely the alt has multiple probs and will cost more for an independent shop to go through vs. a reman from a part store.Plus you won't have to wait to get it back.

If it were me, I'd bring it to the local rebuilder who has probably 10 of those in stock at any given time, buy a rebuilt from them and then they'll rebuild yours for the next guy that needs one.

No waiting, the price is right, and it supports the local guys.
