gm headlamp problem

just thought i'd pass this along.. had a customer with a 2006 pontic g6. kept burning out headlamp bulbs. would last a month or so. found the socket that attaches to the bulb itself melting. called the dealer. yup there is a tsb (technical service bulletin). gm has an update headlamp plug and a different bulb now. cut the old plug out of the harness after removing the headlamp, then splice in the new pigtail, install the new style bulb. this covers a lot of gm products, cadillac,chevy gmc,cars and light trucks. about 50 dollars or so for the update plugs, and then two bulbs,. this is on the low beam circuit.

Also had this problem with my G6. Didn"t like the cost of a factory pigtail, so bought one at the local parts store. Still uses the same bulb as the original. Replaced it in January, and so far haven"t had another failure.

Whenever I see a Cyclopse coming down the road with their driving lights on I know it is a GMC or Chevy. Most inspection stations don't notice this because the driving lights are only on in drive. The high beam and low beam generally work. The should have a factory paid recall.
