Google misdirection.

Often when I Google it shoots me off into other search engines, happens often and ticks me off. Any ideas? Thanks,--- you braineacks usualy have the help us less fortunate red necks need. So thanks in advance.

It's not exactly Google's fault - websites out there try to "stack the deck" with keywords in their pages so that Google bubbles them to the top of the search results.

Usually, they are just looking for referral fees (when you click on them and then get sent on down the line to Amazon.com or whereever), or they are trying to sell advertising or maybe sell you something directly.

A few malicious ones may try to inject your PC with malware or viruses, but those are relatively rare...

But, yep, you are right - it is a pain.

It is a constant battle between google trying to strain that type of garbage out and the scammers trying to figure out an edge....

A top-notch web programmer the other day was telling me you had to be careful in how far you "pushed" the keywords and other manipulations to raise yourself in their search results because if you ticked google off you could wind up "blackholed" and never showing up on any of their searches...

FWIW, I"ve got Windows XP Home running Mozilla Firefox, which uses Google--in the 2 yrs or so I"ve had this I can"t ever recall any listing on any Google page shunting me to another search engine.

Howard has it right. Google uses a proprietary algorithm called "PageRank" to determine which sites it returns on a search. Basically, the more links there are to a site, the higher its rank. A lot of unscrupulous operators create "link farms" that are nothing but sites with links to each other.

You can frequently spot link farms in the search results. They'll usually have a bunch of unrelated phrases in the summary. You can also avoid them by being selective in the way you construct your search.

You fellows are right. Just wanted to mention that Kim is in a constant battle about things like this and spam. So if you have problems with certain words or such, try not to get too agrivated.

Is it google you are not getting to or you search results point you in the wrong direction? Many spyware/malware's change your machine to use different search engine rather then google when you type in google. Its an adware attack. If not the answers is below.
