Got my 40 s home. Hopefully there will be a couple of pictures below.(i"m not too up to date on photoshop). I don"t have much experience with antique tractors and this is my first John Deere, so feel free to tell me the good, bad and ugly on her.
So far, trying to get the starter to do something/anything. I"m in the process of cleaning loose connections and wires.

Looks like a great project. I have a 1953 40 S also.

Here is a picture after an engine rebuild, newer tires and mechanical work. Still need to get it painted..

You can do all you want and that starter isn't going to do anything till you put a battery in it. LOL It really don't look that bad have seen a lot worst good luck
