I posted a couple days ago about needing new tires and rims for my 630 as both the tires and rims are beyond shot. Though I love the tractor and it runs like a top, I was hesitant to spend much money on a tractor I got for scrap price whose only job is to run a tedder. The original tires on it were 14.9-28's, which I think are too small for a 630. I was going to buy a pair of 18.4-26 combine tires on rims and adapt the centres. I've got pretty used to adapting centres: Get a disc cut on the plasma table at work the right thickness and with the right centre hole and bolt pattern. Cut out the centres of the rims I bought, weld the new discs in. Grind, blast, paint, all that jazz. The 18.4's were going to be a bit larger than I wanted, but for $800 for the pair I would make do.
Then a pair of 16.9-28's on Kubota rims and centres popped up for $400 about 30 minutes away. Firestone field and road's, not a huge pile of tread left, but fine for what I need and no cracks at all. Rims and centres rock solid with good paint (Kubota orange, but oh well). Went and grabbed them, and started taking measurements to make my adapter discs, preparing to get out the torches and consign myself to a day of cutting, grinding, welding, and painting.
Much to my surprise, the Kubota they were off of (M4900) used the same 8 on 8" bolt pattern and 6" pilot hole as the Case. I didn't even bother to check it before I bought them, because I assumed I'd have to adapt them.
So for $400 and an hour drive I got a set of Firestones with nice shiny rims and centres that bolt right up and are exactly the size I was hoping to upgrade to. Not too bad in my books.
