You guys are really that ------ that I got alittle upset awhile back .........geeeeeeeezzzzzz I apologize already OK>>>>>>>>

My 9n will shut down to idle when I put a load on it sometimes now and in order to recover I move the lever itself back to idle, put in the clutch, and then slowly pull the lever back down after putting it in first gear and it doesn't do it as much in first gear.........If I raise the blade in back and don't put a load on her she doesn't bof down or go down to an idle.......

Are governors hard to rebuild? Can they be bypassed?

Have you ever heard that old saw, something like, " boy, you dun went and messed in your Sunday hat"?

Maybe.

Try looking at the rod linking the gov to carb throttle when it "shuts down to idle. Is that rod actually closing the carb butterfly shaft back to an idle position (look at idle speed adjust screw relative to screw stop)?

JMOR ,don't you know that this is the DELL? BOB? N FORUM?How can one apologize then start the topic like that?Go back and look at Ron Tron's past posts.I guess the rest of us on here don't know SQUAT!!

Den.........yer comments are UNCALLED FOR and can cause hate and discontent and hurt feelings, and causes our web mistress headaches and delete-itus. Yes, Ron-Tron apologized, but you have just stirred the pot again. Are you pleased with yourself?

Instead of jumpin' on JMOR, why don't you show yer obvious expertize and tell Ron-Tron how to fix his problem?.......respectfully, Dell

Dell I'll have you know that I didnt jump on JMOR,All I said was how can someone apologize and start with a heading like that.It dosn't sound to sincere.

I'm confused by your post.

Are you only asking Bob & Dell to answer your question? Or, are you apologizing to them?

Next, here is a copy of your post of 5/2/07:

Hey DELL I think I figured it out.....nope not the governor.....I cant" believe neither you or Bob suggested a simple check of the air flow to carb..............I was showing the tractor problem to a friend of mine today, and showing him how when I pulled the throttle manually past a given point it went from reving up to choking and sputtering........ when I thought what if I just pull the air intake off and see if that helped and........wallaaaaaaaaaa........it didn"t sputter anymore but just kept reving up like its supposed to........I haven"t tried it with a load or under working conditions but I"m sure that was the problem........I just can"t figure out how the oil bath filter could get that clogged..........I just changed the oil in it not to long ago but it must be something else......I"ll take it apart and examine it to see where its clogged........

Thanks anyway guys for the suggestions............

Next, here is a nice response from you to Dell on 4/17/07 about the same topic you are now asking about:

"Ron........you ask how to check a governor......here's what I wrote earlier......."When you place a load on yer tractor, the engine slows down and the GOVERNOR kicks the throttle up to take the load. UNDERSTAND??? So yer problem could be yer governor. With engine runnin' about 1/3 throttle, GRAB-IT with yer dainty little pinkies and try got goose ye carb-governor rod. (it ain't gonna bite you) Does it FIGHT you for increasing engine rpms???..........thats how I check a governor........respectfully, Dell"

GRAB WHAT?......... and "try got goose ye carb-governor rod." what the hell does that mean? excuse my ignorance.........

So, as I see it, your most recent question about the governor was answered by Dell on 4/17/07. In fact, that entire thread runs for about 2 days & has very useful & accurate responses from a number of folks that address your current question.

So, what is it that you are having a problem understanding? Is it that some folks get tired of answering the same questions from the same people? Or, is it perhaps that some folks not only get tired of repeating themselves, but that they really get ------ when you not only ignore their advice, but tell them to shove it as well?

Please do tell us just what it is.

"Try looking at the rod linking the gov to carb throttle when it "shuts down to idle. Is that rod actually closing the carb butterfly shaft back to an idle position"? YES

("look at idle speed adjust screw relative to screw stop")? don't understand what you mean.....no one has changed the idle mixture screw so why would I check it if it hasn't been moved since it was running fine......?

He doesn't mean the idle mixture screw, he means the idle speed screw on the back side of the carb, to see what the position of it is when the problem is occurring.

It is possible, but a long stretch that you are having a problem with the butterfly in the carb.

Some men, you just can't reach.

(quoted from post at 14:37:26 08/24/08) ... Are governors hard to rebuild? Can they be bypassed?

Yes, they can be by-passed.

And NO! YOU DON'T WANNA DO THAT! Either repair or replace your governor if it's the problem.

I bypassed my gov when I was stupider but it taught me that overrevving the engine does NOT make it work better. It bogged down so often and oversped so often that I was workin' my throttle lever to death and seriously overspeeding the engine in tall grass. (I was hoggin'.) It was bog down, push in clutch, overspeed engine, release clutch, surge forward, bog down, push in clutch.....o over and over and over and over and.....

I bought a new governor, and it was the best money spent. Little 9N just happily putt-putts along in tall grass doin' it's job just like it's supposed to.
:P

Several things other than the goveror may be your problem. Consider a complete tune up of the engine, plugs, points, condensor, carburetor clean and replace gaskets. After that check the timing of the spark and the oil bath cleaner needs more than changing the oil in the pan occassionally. Remove the air cleaner assembly, remove the pan to clean the wire mesh, you must use care with the wire mesh, do not wash in water. Instead flush it up and down in parts cleaner to remove the debris collected in the mesh. I would bet the tractor will perform as it should. The governor rod should show resistance when you attempt to move it to a higher speed with the pressure of your hand. If this occurs, chances are the governor is okay. Please respond.

good comments.........tune up is only 20 hours old.......maybe alittle more......last time it was the plug wires.........I have a pertronix electronic ingnition which I love not having to mess with points anymore......governor arm does fight when pulled on..........had a similar problem six months ago and finally arrived at your description of the mesh in the oil bath filter being clogged...............took it apart and cleaned the crap out of it and it solved the problem........I"m going to take it apart today and see if its clogged again......can"t imagine..........the first time I ran the tractor several years doing the same thing dragging and arena twice a week before it clogged so I just can"t believe its clogged again in just a few months but I will look today

Thanks for the reply. I have found the governor to cause very little problem. I have a 600, the lift sticks at the top once in a while, giving me fits. Have to let it sit and when it does go down it works okay for a while, only sticks at the very top. Any suggestions?
