Governor '52 8n

New governor and carb. When engine isn't running the throttle moves the governor arm and the carburetor rod. when I start it, the rod to the carb doesn't move at all. Also noticed the carb rod moves inside
the ends. That doesn't seem right. Are the ends of the carb rods threaded like the throttle rod. Seems everything I fix, I find two more things broken. It's a vicious circle!

The ends of the carb throttle plate rod and choke plate rod are
not threaded and they should not wobble/move laterally.
Do you have the original carb to rebuild?
If so, I would go that route and send the aftermarket carb back.

(quoted from post at 17:33:11 11/28/20) P.S. Same with the governor. Rebuild the original.
Absolutely. NOTHING is better than the original parts when properly rebuilt,
Some advice for the 52 owner, patience is a virtue. Knowledge is power.

Welcome to the headbanging aggravation of the N series world, nothing is easy, although having the essential manuals takes a ton of the frustration out of it, the challenge is always there. Henry Ford smiles down upon us for trying to keep these pain in the butt tractors out of the scrap pile.

I have some 8N stuff at my lot, I have a couple carb rods, throttle linkage, etc,not sure of a govenor rod. Will check when I get there, if you need them, they are Free. I'm not a 8N man, got a few parts in a auction pile, would like to get them in the hands of the man that needs them.

I'm sure shipping would be minimal,
I live in Carthage Tn.

Thanks Rustic and Royce. I do have the manuals and I still have the carb I took off, but don't think it's original. How can I tell?

Jim

It wouldn't necessarily have to be the original one for that tractor,
as long as it's an original Marvel Schebler for an N series Ford.
They would mainly be a TSX-33 or a TSX-241A/B/C
Some had a brass tag as shown here, others had numbers cast in.
You also may find the MS name cast on the side of the bowl or cast in the mounting lip.

If you can send a pic and lengths I may have them, I'm there now, sorting through stuff n getting a Fergie ready to sell.

The place I got the governor from claimed it to be a rebuilt original. They will also pay a core charge for originals if you want to send them back. At least it didn't say made in China or India anywhere!
