Governor Repair

The governor on my 49 A is in need of repair, and I know that the Mag should come off before I do much of anything. There is a Live Hyd pump mounted between the mag and the governor. Can I take the pump off of the governor and leave the mag attached to the pump, or do I need to take the mag off, then the pump? Thanks
