Governor start-up question

Super a started up earlier then died like it ran out of fuel. I pulled the carb went through it again, put it back on, and nothing. Turns over but won't fire. I checked the govenor rod and it was almost unresponsive with the throttle. I removed the gov to carb rod and the linkage from the gov had almost zero resistance like there was no spring, very sloppy. I'm guessing the spring is either broke or so worn it's affecting the ability too start. Does that sound right? Looks like a pain I the rear to remove cover, is it simple to get to once cover is off?

So if you set the throttle wide open does the carb linkage move to wide open?? If it does ok and then if you move the throttle to idle does it also move the carb linkage to idle?? If it does then you don't have a problem and not likely to be your no start problem

Sometimes the rod moved a little and then it didn't move at all, I had to play with the throttle back and forth for it to move

When I open the throttle it will open the carb but when I try to bring it back to idle the carb rod doesn't move, I have to manually move the rod. I have the bend of the rod going to the carb against the block, could I have the rod the wrong way and restricting movement? But that doesn't explain how it ran fine then all of a sudden died... unless that spurring let loose a little more... any ideas

Did you check for spark? Is it a battery ignition? If so is it getting power? Is the distributor turning?

It's a magneto and I'm going to go check for spark after dinner

It's a carb problem fellas, I have spark, I got it you start after playing with the idle screw but still screwed up, thanks for the input
