My 44-6 governor is making a lot of noise so I want to change it to one from another 44-6 motor I have laying around. I see there is a slotted bolt hole at the bottom of the mounting. Should I use my micrometers to put the new on in the same position as the old one, or is the setting for each one different? How is this replacement done? I have never had any problems with the governors on any of my tractors, so any help would be great. Thanks.

That slot is to adjust the gear mesh between the governor gear and the timing gear it runs off. Since gear wear would be different, I wouldn't fully trust the micrometer method. I don't know the specifics for setting the mesh. I would push it up tight and then back it off a c-hair before tightening. Good Luck!
