GP questions

Got a 29 GP the other day, it was out of time by about a 1/4 of a turn on the wheel, I got it to impulse on the mark now but it backfires and won’t start, not real sure what all has been done to it. I put new plugs in and it looks like the carb is flooding out. Any suggestions
Thanks

Sounds like you have a few things wrong. On the flywheel side of the governor housing there are 4 bolts and the plate comes off there should be timing marks on the camshaft gear and the governor gear that need to line up and if correct the slot for the magneto should be straight up and down when the flywheel is on the LH Impulse. Now the magneto itself may be out of time if you look at the driver cup on the magneto it should have a degree on it or a part number if you look up the part number it should tell you the degrees the magneto needs to bet set at. There should be 4 screws on the back of the magneto and you should be able to adjust the internal timing of the magneto. When those screws are loosend you should be able to move the marker on the notches and to tell where it needs to be the center mark is 2.5 degrees of timing and each mark after that is 5 degrees once set to the proper adjustment retighten down the screws and the top wire should be to the LH Cylinder to test you can find someone you want to play a joke on and have them hold the top hole until it zaps the snot out of them while turning the driver or use a plug tester. With the carb if it has sat for a while the float needle may be stuck open so i usually will tap lightly on the bowl or take the carb off and shake it a few times to get that needle free. But if you have the choke on those things will flood our fairly quickly. You can also reset the carb to initial settings where the load adjustment is 1 3/4 to turns out and the idle adjustment is 3/4 to 1 turn out. Hope this helps

I don't know about a GP, but the others need the slot for the mag horizontal to be in time. Ron MN

GP doesn't have a gov. as you described.
