Grain drill disc question

While using my 1924 IHC wood box grain drill I found 2 disc that had become unbolted and fell off. After checking the rest of them I found 2 that were froze so I took them off. The discs are 12in dia and have a plate that has 5 of what looks like rivets head on them, but no indication of rivets on the back of the disc. I finally got the bolts loose that held the disc to the shoe, just one to a disc, then/now I wonder how to get them tightened again to the shoe as the bolt now turns freely in the mounting on the back of the disc. There is somewhat of a cap that goes around the hub that holds the bolt, and a leather dust washer inside of it/ I took them off. I just dont see how I can tighten the nuts back on the bolts with the bolt spinning inside the mounting on the disc. Any thoughts?

Oh. That took a while to work out in my head..... because they were froze up, you could just spin the blades off backwards, didnt need a wrench, I get it.

Is there a dust cap/ grease zerk cover on the outside center? Take that off. Inside will be that short bolt that holds the disc on. It will have a square or hexagon hole in it,
not a head like a bolt but a hole. You need the right size Allen wrench or square to fit in the hole. Fairly large wrench.

One side tightens clockwise, other side counter clockwise.

Wait, now. Im familiar with double disc openers.

Do you have single disk or double disk openers? Single disk will be different than what I said.

And by golly, you always manage to be different on these things! Ha ha........

Paul the grease zerk is in the shoe that holds the disc. There is no dust cap per se, there is a ring that goes around the hub that holds the bolt that has a leather washer init. The ring is curved and is around 1/2in each side of the ring. There is no place for a allen wrench, even if they had been invented by 24

I have wondered that myself?? I have a early 1900's "Monitor" drill and a "Moline" Drill with the same setup.
Haven't looked closely but does not seem to be a way to tighten-Maybe it screws in and gets a lock nut. That old
stuff seems to be well designed for the speed it was used at? Cleddy

I looked at some of mine and it looks like they slip over a protrusion on the mount with a flat spot on it? I assume the bolt is like a plow or carraige bolt with a square head so it does not spin. Thousands of them made you would assume it was a dependable design???
