Gravity feed for Fuel Injection?

I want to hook up a temporary fuel tank to get my Volvo wagon in and out of the shop. It's been on the lift for some time to replace the fuel pump and today I wanted to pull my other car in for an oil change. Will a little tank up high adapted to the fuel line get the car going enough to move it? It's an '86 Volvo, fuel injected. Photo attached because it's always fun to look at an old car. Even a Volvo. I included the other components in this recipe as well. One more question: Anyone know what type of fuel line I need to buy to adapt to what's in the car? I don't mind sacrificing the other end to put a flexible hose on if this scheme will fly. I already tried to match up something from NAPA and couldn't find anything. Thanks for any thoughts, can't check back until late tomorrow. Gerrit
Note: car is outside right now, pulled it out with my tractor. Hard to get it back in with the tractor, though.

It looks to me like you are trying to connected direct to a line on the engine. Looking at Rock Auto I guessed it was a 740 model looks like it either has a fuel pump in the tank or high pressure pump somewhere along the frame. Fuel injection systems usually require at least 20 to 50 psi maybe more. If this is the case you will get nothing coming through your fuel injectors which generally require a specific pressure to activate. Maybe if you got that tank up about 25 feet in the air you might start getting close. Otherwise if you dribble gas in front of the throttle body you might get some action and you might also burn your car up.

We used to move Fordson Majors around dripping fuel into the intake, but accessing the intake on one of those, while moving is a lot easier than on a car.
 
As has been said, that won't work on fuel injection. It would work fine on a carbureted car. You would have to put some kind of pressure booster in line with the gas line. In short it would be risky. Safer to just push it in and out.

The adapter needed normally does not come in a fuel injector tester tool you have to purchase it separate.
Google 71305 volvo 14mm lh-jetronic connector. They are not expensive you will need a pressure vessel to charge up and adapt to keep it running. Fuel pressure spec is 42 PSI you will need 30PSI. The proper vessel for that would be exspensive....

I can come up with different ways but folks here would go bat pupp crazy over a simple way to get it running and moved.
Don't cut it UP its only going to make matters worst.

 
Thanks for the replies. I'll put this idea on hold, glad I asked. I can push the car back in now because it's not too far from my garage. When I started the fuel pump job I thought it was the external pump that went bad. But I tested it and it's ok. Everything's pointing to the in-tank pump as I also tested and replaced the fuel pump relay. I'll soon find out. Thanks again, saved me a lot of trouble and headaches. Gerrit

I do not believe it will run. Pushing the car using a pipe with the chain through it tied to the hold down on the car, and the tractor front can be used (requires 2 people with a good relationship.) Jim
 
When I was a dealership tech, they had this attachment to clean your fuel injectors. The fuel pump was disabled and the car would run only on the injector cleaning additives. The machine kinda looked like an IV that you see hooked up to a hospital patient…except it was hooked to your car. Took about 20 minutes, IIRC. Probably too expensive for a one-time use, but if you could find a used one…..

Actually to get 50 psi from gravity it would have to be 116 feet plus in the air. 2.31 feet of water column creates 1 psi. Water is heavier than fuel, so it would take more fuel height to get the same pressure.

I am a certified API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, mainly qualified for refinery and chemical process applications. I am quite aware of the consideration of static pressure created by water as its depth/height increases. I would need to take that increased pressure into account when hydrostatic testing a pressure vessel. Unfortunately now days you have a computer that calculates all this for you so you forget the actual value. I just shot out a low number. Had I needed the actual formula I definitely have documents to access for accurate test calculations. Bottom line is the OP was lacking quite a bit of knowledge in terms of the operation of fuel injection on the vehicle in question.
