Growing old sucks

The people gather around when he gets on the stand
Then when he plays, he gets a hand
The rhythm he beats puts them cats in a trance
Nobody there bothers to dance
And when he plays with the bass and guitar
They holler: 'Oh! Beat me Daddy - eight to the bar!'

(quoted from post at 14:02:53 06/27/23) The word ''sucks'' as used in this case traces back to the days of the big bands with lots of wind instruments. When a player lacked wind power to blow, they sucked in to get more air in their lungs to blow out again. All while continuing to play. The audiences, in most cases, couldn't tell. But their fellow musicians knew and when discussing among themselves the attributes of their fellow musicians, ''he sucks'' would often be used to describe a player who did just that. He sucked.

Sorry Bill, LOL! I used to play a woodwind instrument and playing while breathing in just doesn't happen. See if you can talk and continue to talk while taking a big breath.

Not sure if finding something offensive means that I'm offended ..... but maybe that might not be a good term. Let's say I find it an inappropriate term as it is currently used these days to describe something that you are not happy or in agreement with. If you do some Googling on the origins of the term in current usage Levi, you'll find out pretty quick that it generally has some pretty nasty connotations. I think my email is open, send me one and I'll reply with a link that'll explain my point better. Obviously I'm not going to post one here on the site.

I was getting annoyed with my daughter who is now 47 years old using that word. I knew that she was using it in its modern meaning and she was not really aware what the meaning is to older people. She respects me and I haven't seen or heard her use it since. She works in a professional setting, as a PHD.
