Guide branding on Lights

Trying to source lights for a 1948 John Deere D, What is the significance of having the "guide" name on the lights?

Well, Deere bought their electrical stuff (other than magnetos which were mostly WICO until Deere began installing Delco distributors in the '50's) from Delco, and their lamps came from GM's "Guide" lamp division, so if you want original look and feel, the lens and body should say "Guide", though over the years the lenses and parts were made available froma number of non-"Guide" sources.

Concur with F-I-T; Keep in mind that only you and about a half-dozen others in the world will really take notice! And those that do are usually nuisance nitpickers anyway.

To be truthful with you, I'll bet most of the farmers who owned those tractors in the beginning never really knew the lamp lens had "GUIDE" imprinted on them!

Bottom line - I wouldn't spend big bucks just to have lamp lens' by GUIDE. (PatB)

Better than that most small farmers never dreamed their two cylinder was hand crafted from the minds of designers from "New York City".....
they would have said "yuck"

Thanks for the comments. It is interesting to know the connection and a little bit more Deere history that I was not aware of.
Knowing this I will continue my search and decide on the best source. My original housing are actually good so just need lens', Ring, reflectors and bulbs but from what I have seen so far cost for these are almost the same as buying complete light.

many thanks to everyone for their comments, they have been most helpful and interesting.
