This is my Gundlach horse-drawn grain drill. The old timer's around here tell me its pronounced Gun Lock. I know a couple of farmers who have one. The drill was manufactured in Swansee, Ill. in the late 1800's. Its all wood, including the axle.

Dad had one. It was consider a very good drill. Rode many an acre sitting on top of the seed box. Trash would collect in front of the grain shoes and would have to pull on the chain to clear it. I grew up about 20 miles south of Swansea and we pronounced it Gundlock. Not critizing just note different pronounciations for different areas

Actually, Gundlock isn't too far off from Gun Lock. I was probably pronouncing it wrong. I was pronouncing it Gundlatch.

Regarding your posting back in July that you wish you could find an old drill like the one pictured. My father in law passed away a few years ago, and he had Gundlach wood drill in almost perfect condition. I would be interested in selling it. It is located near Manhattan Kansas. I could send pictures or you could call me at 316-648-8268.
