Gutter guards

I need to put gutter guards on my gutter. Has anyone used Metal Lock-in Gutter Guards. Looks quite simple but worried about putting guard under shingles, will it hurt the singles. I got an estimate on --ter fi---- Company. Started at $6500. and got down to $2500. What are other good covers, thanks

Menards and Lowes sell this gutter guard.

You have a metal drip edge that goes about 3 inches under the shingles. The gutter guard goes under the shingle about an inch without hurting a thing.

i don't know what mine are called. they were installed after the fact by the same guy who put up my gutters originally. i had my doubts - it's a sheet of aluminum with small (one eighth inch?) holes in it. i was very skeptical, and expected water to come pouring over the edge at the first rainfall. but nope, the stuff works just fine.

I have no needles, just leaves.

I use the Amerimax hinged gutter guard. Works good except for 2 things, the helicopters from silver maples stick to the amerimax & if you have a patio you walk out from your house, the ice sticks to the metal & if your patio is on the non sun side, it drips on your walking path & freezes.

All of it is nonsense. Eave trough and all are just roof rotters. IF you get any freeze thaw weather the rain,snow and all freezes and builds up then melts on warmer sunny days as it builds up it soaks up under the roof. then with the base wet it begins to rot then it needs replaced . With no rotters on there the water snow and all just run off and save the roof. the place you need to look at is the drainage around the house. Put some tile and stone in with a place for it to get away to like road ditch or down hill from the house out 50 or so feet away. more eave distance helps too. Mine is about 18 inches and on a hill so everything can drain away.

I can speak from experience.....Pine needles can get through tiny holes, even smaller than those pictured grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

John, that was my concern as larch needles are smaller, also have noted that most of the big name leaf filter companies DO NOT sell in our area & I think its due to larch trees.

The Leaf Filter I used has like a fine mesh stainless steel cover over the bigger slotted cover and it DOES stop pine needles yayyyyyyyyyyy

One side of the house gets a lot of
Leaves. I ordered a roll of plastic mesh that cost about $25. I have not put it up yet.

I don't know if gutter guards work (especially at $2500) but the cheap plastic mesh does not. The house I bought the previous owner had that stuff on all the gutters. All it did was trap the down from the cotton wood trees in the gutters. I ripped it all out so I could clean the gutters - looked like it was the first time in decades they had been cleaned.

Neighbor has the exact same thing - only he has 6 tall grass growing in his gutters.

I noticed some tv ads where they show inside the gutter while water is being poured over the top. Problem I have with that is that they are pouring water vertically over the gutter. Rain, especially storm rain follows the pitch of the roof and is more like 4/12 or 6/12 traveling at a fair to midllin to strong velocity. Seems to me that the water will run right over the top and onto the ground.

Then your gutters are improperly installed, not maintained or undersized. I have gutters on houses over 40 years with no rotting. I live in sw wisconsin. Get that water as far away from the house as possible. Dont even give it an inroad to your foundation.

mark, as soon as i saw what my guy was putting up, that was exactly what i was afraid of - water pouring right over them and the gutters. it hasn't happened. it may be a bumblebee - can't work, but does anyway.
