H decal location

I'm finishing my H project and have these stickers left to put on. Where should they go on a 41? Thanks.

If the tractor did NOT have the factory lights, then the shift pattern decal would go on the top of the gas tank. Since your tractor DOES have factory lights, that decal should go on the headlight bracket, on your left side while sitting in the seat. Place it just above the round pipe.

The smaller "caution" decal probably also goes on the top of the gas tank. Most folks do not even use that one. The big caution decal was probably not even a part of the original decal package.

Thank you much. I sanded a decal off the tank but couldn't
remember which one. Its been since last fall doing her up.

The BE Careful and the shifter pattern go on the tank, where you sanded the old ones of. Never seen the shifter pattern on the light bar, I have seen originals with a light bar, that were on the tank. (Im going to guess at what the response will be!) The other is just legal junk, but most people will put them on the battery box.

John, you are correct. Gear shift decal goes on the tank,lights or no lights. Placed centered 18.5" to the rear of the hood, or where the hood fits on the tank.

Rusty, my dad's new 47 H had it on the tank, as it came from the factory. It had lights. I drove it from 1950-up, it was repainted in 1955.

Yep! Ive been on and drove 4 original, and verifiable at the time original, that had light bars and the decal was on the tank, what was left of them anyways.

I KNOW the book calls for it to be on the tank, but every H or M that I was ever around while growing up had that decal on the light bar. Might have been part of the IH sponsored repaint program.

Not going to argue, I know that's a useless thing to do with you. Ill say I know for a fact, the 4 untouched Hs that I can verify weren't touched other than repairs since they were built, had light bars and shifter pattern on the tank. I know for a fact, one of my Ms wasn't touched since new, and its decal was also on the tank. The other I cant say, but it measured the same as the other decal, was on the tank.

just to be a trouble maker you bought the wrong decal set for a '41 model h. your hood decal should not have the block ih and it should say mccormick deering above the farmall and your h decal is placed too far ahead. the paint looks nice though.

I drove two brand spanking new H farmalls. A 45 and a 52. I have worked on hundreds of H farmalls during my 37 years at the IH dealer. Darned if I know if the decal goes on the light bar or the tank. I put mine on the light bar. Never paid any attention to that kind of stuff. I do know (things that matter though). Rusty, I think they are picking on you on this one.

Let 'em pick. There seem to be folks out there who subscribe to the theory that the book is correct and anyone who strays from the book is commiting a mortal sin. I personally have no problem with "doing it by the book", but then those same folks will throw the book out the window when it it is time for paint. I'm sorry, but a super high gloss, high dollar, see your reflection from 50 feet away paint job is NOT a factory correct restoration, and should never win any awards.

We have a '49 H that was bought new with lights, been in the family since that time, and has never (until last year) been repainted. The gear shift pattern decal was always on the tank.

I even sat in the shed on a stake out to see if I could see that decal move. Snuck up on the tractor real quiet-like...I dont think it even knew I was there. Watched that decal for 4 straight hours, and it never moved even a inch.
