I have an H and the power takeoff is not working. I have looked in through the pto hole and both dogs on the transmission counter shaft are broken off. I believe this is so, but cannot find them in the transmission housing. It has been suggested that I change to the newer spline pto. I hear that this is not a fun fix. I have a service manual, serviceman"s guide and a parts catalog to assist me. My questions are as follows:

1). Where do I find the parts?
2). Any tips on changing the counter shaft?

The opening between the clutch and transmission on the underside of the tractor is for removing the clutch. My question is....I have the transmission shaft towards the top and one shaft that looks like it is tied to the counter shaft, but does not show up in my manual or parts book. What is that shaft?

It's for the belly pump, look in hydraulics

I believe you will be taking apart the counter shaft to replace the drive. Newer parts from later H Farmalls are available at several used parts locations. Be careful of components that can get "lost". be clean and careful. The broken ears are probably in the differential. Finding them (or being assured they are gone) is important. The manual for repair is very desirable if you are not a transmission experienced person. Jim
