H fuel line

What size(diameter) fuel line is used on an H and why do they have a loop in them. I used a piece of 1/4 inch for my M but is the H any different. Also I ran the M line straight in with no loop and its fine. Thanks

The loop absorbs vibration.I just changed in filters on both my H and M. H takes a 5/16 filter;M takes a 3/8 fuel filter.1/4 line would probably allow sufficent fuel flow.

The loop not only absorbs vibration, but also allows for expansion and contraction.

For what it's worth, those aftermarket replacement rubber fuel lines work very well and are a breeze to install.

Look at the original size line like this. Unless its a early tractor both the H and M used the same fitting screwed into the carburetor and the same fuel bowl if they were the same fuel type engine.

If you don't use the tractor much, you may get away without the loop. If you use it more without the loop it will almost certainly crack the alloy body of the fuel strainer under the main tank and possibly the fuel line itself. As others have said, the loop absorbs vibration and takes up expansion and contraction with changes in temperature.
