H Oil filter help

Do they make a spin on assembly for an H? IF so, who has it. ALSO, does anyone sell the rubber rings that fit underneath the canister minus the filter?

Everyone sells it a quick google search will lead you down a couple paths. Mine for the super c came from case ih themselves they don’t list it as for a c but the h kit fits unless they discontinued something in the last 5 years that’s how I did it. 51051 wix is what I’ve used

If you want a spin-on for the looks, that's one thing. But the engine isn't going to last any longer, still makes the same mess when you take it apart, and the filters cost more in some cases. All a spin-on adapter does is raise operating costs.

Can’t punch a hole in the side of your steel can to drain like the spin on. It is also smaller and quicker to change

Go to case ih. All them square o rings fit all those tractor models from that era.

Yep so after you pull the plug you still make the mess anyway because you can’t pop the hole in the side down low to get the rest out. Both of them hold the oil in the same spot. One you can poke a hole and get it out nice and clean and one you dump all over pulling a bolt out.

Guess I'm not following you. The filter base has 2 pipe plugs , can use either one, and they drain neatly into a pan. I'm not getting the part about poking a hole in the can.

Don’t see how u dump oil all over. I use a soup can and drain the oil filter housing with the drain plug with the canister bolt loosened.

The filter housing drains down when you shut the tractor off. At most, I place a rag around the base of the oil filter to catch the few drops that escape when the canister pops free.

I've never understood this obsession with converting tractors to spin-on filters that didn't come with them. How often do you change the oil on these tractors that the slight "inconvenience" of the original canister filter justifies the cost of the conversion? The conversions cost anywhere from $120-150. I doubt I'll spend $120 per tractor on oil changes in the next 30 years!

No there is a drain plug in the bottom of the casting below the filter canister. At least there is on our MD and I believe the H has one also. Now maybe only on some age groups of them or certain engine uses like a Power plant engine. I do know the engine has never been changed out on our H since it was new. Bought by Grandpa and dad is the second owner of it.

We still use the old canister filters with little oil leakage if done right . We have a few extras filters for our MD and the H. My 806 is the mess to change fuel filters on. Especially the fuel filters everything has to come out the top and the fuel drain runs down the side of the housing when I pull the plug out. One of the others with spin on filters leaks when you remove them also. I think it is either the 856 or the 1466.

The spin on filters cost less than the tall one and a good spin on one will cost less than a good small one. Even without the napa discount just walking in.

5 bucks annual oil change is 20 years to recoup not 30 but I get that’s not the best argument on my part lol what will it be like 20 years from now? I’m betting if he’s asking the question it’s going to be used a bit.

I understand the plug thing one of my relatives has a valve on his even though that would have been naughty back when it was used more agressively. What I’m saying is he still has some up top when he dumps it and uses the rags around it method.

Where I don’t bother with the plug I just smack a hole in the side of the filter down low and let the little bit drain into my pan. Clean fast no mess the new filter came in a thin cardboard box even that is the right size to use as a funnel to make it hit the pan.

Fixing Farmer. I see strenier dosnt have it Barnyardengineering. It isnt a matter of inconvenience. Its a matter of not being able to get the SOB to seal. Ive never had much luck with getting a seal using the origional equipment. It had a tiny leak before, and I needed it today, and as yet cant get it to seal. Fritz, mine only has one drain plug, and the one that was in it had been turned in and out so much that the square head was rounded off. I finally got it out and bought a new one

Where exactly is it leaking???

I have seen the top of canister deform from over tightening. Good & snug with a wrench should do it.

The other thing is to be sure all the old gaskets are out of the bottom, That groove is quite deep.

It will never seal if there is old gasket left in the groove.

I will say they have tripled in price. This is what I bought although from the local dealer. He had one on the shelf actually

Keep a close eye on your oil pressure if you put one of the spin on oil filters on your tractor. I put two, one my H and another on my C. The oil pressure was lots lower on both tractors. I took them off and pitched them. I would rather use the original filter and have good oil pressure. Just my experience.
