Sand is pervasive. It gets into almost every nook and cranny (somehow even those taped up or masked.) SOda blasting, or stripping wpild be my choice. Experienced operators with personally masked components can work, Jim
 
Best advice is DON'T. I had to redo an engine when the rebuilder before me blasted the block & didn't get all the sand out of it.
 
I did mine, took every part and piece off, sandblasted, primed, painted. Reassembled Not difficult, but that is the way to do it. Otherwise, it leaves rust and corrosion inside every joint, waiting to creep back out.
