H Water pump check

Hey Gang, while waiting for magneto parts for my JD A I'm back getting things cleaned up on the Farmall H to put the motor back together this fall once temperatures cool down. Was cleaning the thermostat housing and water pump today and was curious about how do I know if my water pump is good or if it needs to be gone through and re-done. Took the packing nut out and noticed the previous packing had deteriorated but the shaft and impeller itself was in good shape with no play and my pulleys were turning good with no play either. I don't recall having any leaks for the short time this thing ran several years ago. Pumped some grease into both zerks at the top and bottom. Top pushed out a little bit of mud which I can only assume is corrosion from her sitting for a while and grease got to the bottom without much discoloration but I welcome any input.

Get a length of graphite valve stem packing from a good hardware store. you can leave the old packing in, or remove it. but replace as much + a bit more when replacing the whole batch. Wind in on the shaft tightly. Jim

Both seals were worn. Was able to pull them out without using profanity. Also need to get a new felt washer that sits at the base of the pump housing. That one was shot too.
