found these at home depot. swivel seat that snaps on to a 5 gallon bucket. about 15 dollars. pretty comfy for working on stuff. and a way to repurpose old buckets!!

I’ve made a many of those for my baseball buckets but they don’t swivel, Cut a piece of plywood and cover it with a seat cover from a junk car. The best cover come from a Lincoln town car with leather seats has the foam glued to the leather : ) This brings up another repurpose cut the back out of a bucket seat use the foam under your belly when working under the hood of a truck. When I am working under the dash I use the foam from a couch cushion for my knees. If working on car interiors like a Corvette where you are laid back and far from the dash put a cushion behind your back.

I have an old office chair on casters in my shop, works great! You don't want armrests, they just get in the way, chairs with armrests are for deer stands!

Many years ago as a Scout leader we used buckets for campfire seats and you could store a lot of your gear in it and it stayed dry. Never needed a swivel or to spend money. You used to be able to buy 5 gal buckets at the store bakery that icing came in for .50. That was before Homer realized people would buy buckets and then charge extra for the lids.

A tenant left behind 2 metal kitchen chairs.
I removed 6 inches off the legs and they make great seats for working on brakes or riding mowers.
Lower ad more stable than sitting on buckets.
I keep a chair in each pole barn.

I'm a milk crate kind of guy myself.I sit on them,stand on them,stack them 2,3,4 high to hold things up while working on them.There are different quality ones though.Around here the ones made for Garelick Farms or H.P.Hood were the strongest.They had a steel ring around them.The ones made for Weeks Dairy or Idlenot were the cheesiest.I used to haul them from the factory 6 miles from me,they would give me beginning or end of run crates.A 48 foot,13-6 high high cube trailer,loaded to the hilt carried 6500 pounds.I know we're not supposed to own them,but I've been picking them out of our plastics bin at the dump for over 25 years now.When the bottoms start to crack out I put cardboard in the bottoms to store some stuff,or screw a piece of 3/8 plywood on the bottom to stand or sit on.

surprised so many did not the bucket lid. i bought 3 of these for working on grain bins. getting them ready for the upcoming harvest. replaced flashing around air floor and pulled up some sections to vacuum the fines out. other bucket was for the guy outside running an impact. i really dont enjoy kneeling on an air floor

I must be old, I have all metal milk crates to stand on.
Best mechanics seat I have is an old office chair with the back taken off, it swivels and adjusts up and down along with rolling real easy.
