This new tool came in handy repairing a 22 wire harness that had had been cut in two by an errant bullet!

Always keep the hammer down on an ampty chamber! Love the tool, except that it probably wouldn't fit in most of the spots I need it, and it would need a clamp to fix it to a chassis or frame for work under the vehicle. And I'd have to convince my CEO that i really do need shrink tubing for wire harness repair.

GOOD Heat shrink butt connectors job done... Of course you will not get the satisfaction of melting lead but will get over it once you learn a proper butt connection is as good and in most cases better...

If I had a piston rod I think I could make one that will work also.

the CEO will spend 50 bucks on that tool and won't buy your heat shrink ??? nifty tool but I think I'd try to make one...

The hold downs are spring loaded. It has a flex shaft and a magnetic base.

I have both of those, the tool and the 4.0L ZJ. The extra benefit of that tool is providing a heat sink for the soldered wires.

Aircraft suppliers have butt connectors that have a ring of low temp solder, heat shrink sleeve and sealant all in one. A heat gun does it all. Very handy

Nice tool, I could have made good use of it many times in the past. Sometimes soldering is the best method - thanks for posting.

Another option I have been using is to cut the ferrell off of the proper size crimp terminal. The shrink tubing is placed on the wire, the two wires are placed inside the ferrule and crimped. Heating the shrink tubing completes the splice. This method gives a more compact (shorter) repair than the standard butt connector with two crimps. Also, I believe crimping the two wires into one ferrule yields a better connection than a single crimp for each wire.

NAPA sells an Uninsulated Parallel Connector (#784580) for 12-10 Ga wire however, they do not cover the smaller wire sizes. For reference, a NAPA Uninsulated Butt Connector (# 784573) is for 22 - 18 Ga wire. It should be noted the butt connectors can be cut in half to make two parallel connectors.

Soldered connections can be quite brittle for an automotive application. Just sayin'.

A deer hunter shot through the floorboard of a jeep Cherokee. Went through the transmission bell after it cut the harness. No obvious leak. The three guys in the jeep are ok, but one is very embarrassed.

Another holder that works good is the clothes hanger with the two clips that hold pants by the leg. Keep the rod with the pants part and
pitch the rest. You can even solder a couple alligator clips on the clamps to give more abilities.
