There are times when nothing is dramatically worse than a usable product. Face shields made from one sheet of thin
transparency plastic held on by a hair clip plastic head gripper are far better than nothing. HF face shields would be far
more serious than that!! a bandanna is much better than nothing, but a HF dust mask is far superior. What do you use when

Good luck finding usa made masks.

3M makes the most and is considered the gold standard worldwide.
Yet they import nearly 1/3rd from their chinese plant.

I buy a lot of stuff from HF, and I've rarely been disappointed. They've upgraded their merchandise so a lot of it will compete with anything on the market. My next purchase, when I have a chance to get there, is their sliding miter saw. I've had good results with their non-slider, but for an upcoming project I need the capability of a slider.

But, as you said, you have to shop wisely, just like you do at any other high profile store.

My son is a nursing student and is working in a hospital in Laredo, Texas on the same floor where they are treating the Covid19 patients. A month or so ago, he texted me that they were having a hard time receiving their shipment of masks. I texted back and asked him the COO (country of origin) of these masks. He told me they were all made in China. I'm not here to start an argument, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the ventilators are also made in China, as well as probably a few dozen other countries in the world.
If you were admitted to a hospital and needed a ventilator and all they had was one made in China, would you decline it?
All that being said, I avoid Chinese-made products probably more than most people, so my post is not an attack in any way, just a wake up call saying we need to build our products elsewhere.

Goose - I bought their 10" sliding miter saw about 8 years ago and have been very satisfied with it. I would buy it again if I needed - maybe the 12" one although the 10" has cut everything I have put in front of it.

Most of the products that are made in China is quitely known to be sub-standard. So yes, I agree that we should scout for other manufacturers outside China that will deliver quality product. I am also not in the position to judge all chinese products since a few are also worth it. But let us be cautious with what we buy especially if it is made in China. We can't just shrug off the thought that the virus originated from there.

If you're looking at the Hercules miter saw I bought it a couple months ago when it was $300. Overall it is a nice saw but a little overpriced for what it is. I would avoid the Hercules stand though.

Guess so. I have not had the first mask or rubber gloves on since this biological war started. Dont plan on using either anytime soon.

The Chinese build the quality they are paid for. Simple as that. Harbor Freight has come lightyears since it was a liquidator of unclaimed imports.
An American company built from the ground up.
Harbor Freight has reached a level where they contract much of their own inventory. They have found a niche and are filling it admirably. There philanthropical work increases right along with their reputation of providing adequate products for acceptable prices.
No hate on HF coming from this direction.

We just got E:mails at work about using masks, having temperature checked when you clock in, etc at work. It's gonna be aggravating for me as I'm half deaf and read lips a lot to communicate!!

I went to health clinics for a blood draw.
They checked my temp and asked me civic related questions, checked pulse and SpO2. Wrote it on a paper and told me to give this to next person. Who gave me a second paper to give to the person who did the blood draw.

Things are what they are. so go with the flow.

Where I work they've been taking temperatures for a couple weeks before we clock in. It just started becoming mandatory to wear masks for some reason. They're nothing more than a coffee filter with rubber bands.
