Hard Starting 9N

It takes me about 25-30 tries to start my 9N. This is in warm weather when the tractor is cold. When it finally starts it runs fine. I"ve tried choking it & giving it shots of ether. Nothing helps. What"s wrong?

everal possibilities, but first do a compression test.....a good candidate on old worn engines.

Vic.........ennytime you have 'starting issues", change yer sparkies. NO ARGUE!!!!
Recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025". Don't throw yer FLOODED sparkies away, just clean'n'dry them one-atta-time in HOT running engine and save'um fer the next time. (and there will be a next time)

Hard starting engines can be many things, usually weak sparkies. Biggest secret cause of weak sparkies is yer weaksister ignition switch. ($10, cheap)

2nd cause of weak sparkies is yer POINTS. You do know ittza 2-bolt, 15-min job to remove yer frontmount dizzy and change the points (0.015") on the kitchen table, don't you??? Just un-snapple yer capple, and letter dangle. Installation is a reversal of the removal ...except... gently start yer 2-bolts and then twirl yer rotor so the OFF-SET tang drive drops into the cam slot and tighten up. Then re-snapple yer capple. You can NOT install yer 2-bolt dizzy outta time. Simple, eh? ........HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I had one doing exactly the same thing. The cause was a bent choke plate. Straightened it out and she fires right up evry time.

I think I got through your "jibberish"! Thanks for the tip---I didn't realize I could pull the distributor in lieu of getting the radiator out of the way to have a look at the points.

Could you explain what you meant by "Quoting Removed, click Modern View". I think it will be helpful if I can get there. Thanks!
