Hard Starting Jubilee

My Jubilee starts almost everytime I ask it to, but not without a lot of hesitation.

It turns over and over and over again. I keep my finger on that button for 20-30 seconds and just when I think that all hope is lost, it"ll chug to life.

How can I get it to start easier? The starter is relatively new. My electrical connections are strong and tight.

What can I do?

(quoted from post at 10:46:45 08/06/10) My Jubilee starts almost everytime I ask it to, but not without a lot of hesitation.

would begin with a compression test.

Many things come into play as for a fast starting engine. Compression is one of the big ones. Carb set just right and spark has to be just right at the right time. I have had engines that start so easy they scare you and others that no matter what I do they do not like to start easy. I would start by seeing how the compression is. If that is low there might not be much you can do. If that is real good things like timing, point gap and carb setting may or may not help

Make sure the hot wire from the switch is hooked to the -(negative) post of the coil and the short wire from the distributor to the coil is hooked to the +(plus) side of the coil (6 volt positive ground system) 12 volt negative ground system is just the opposite.

Try a quick full choke, under choke will give you hard starting. These carbs lack an accellorator pump that makes easy starting in down draft systems.

There is a nice blue spark at the plugs. I hope that answers your question ... if not then I guess that I don't understand the question.

Looks like he doesnt know how to use the choke on a cold engine. How many on here use 3/4 choke when starting?

if you have good spark, and she spins over fast with no hitting, even on choke.. then i think a compression test is in order. from there we can decide if it is a carb or compression issue.

I have found that I have to choke my 640 if it stalls while baling hay.It wont start until I choke it.

Ya hot manifold and all can cause that problem. But again I do not have that problem with any of my tractors. But the ones I use most of the time for hay are not fords. And the one ford I have been using as of late if a diesel and is owned by a friend/partner
