Harrow Attachments

I have an IH 45 12' mounted field cultivator that works very well for me. Only thing that could be improved on is that it ridges. Since it is used to incorporate urea and is the last trip before planting, I'd like to know who may make a harrow to bolt on the back of this piece to level the ridges. Doesn't need to be too aggressive, just a few bars of spikes to smooth out. Pretty sure there are aftermarket suppliers, just not sure who. Thanks!

Ridges will vary with depth and speed. Sweeps or spikes will also affect ridging. Be careful about to much harrow on the back if it is a 3pt as it will add a lot of weight to the back of it fast with a 6-8 FT lever. A packer might be a better option you could pull it on a hitch behind as you go. It is pretty common to do that here in MI for clods in clay and to firm up sandy ground for planting. There are several brand out there. I would want one that will flex from front to back. A 3 bar should work for you.Watch on auction sales for them or old spike tooth drags for that job.

Need more info. Light ground, clay, any crop residue, clean ground,,,,,,,,?? If you have much unchopped straw residue, in my experience, a harrow can just drag straw along and act like a dump rake. In my sandy ground, my Case (Glencoe) FC with a mounted Lindsay harrow pulling a Brillion crowfoot packer leaves a nice looking field after soybeans as long as the combine has a straw chopper.

Good point. 1/3 of farm is muck, very fluffy. Perhaps a packer would be better. Not a clod on the farm.

Depending on field residue as already mentioned on our
cleaner fields before sowing alfalfa,we just tied both ends
of an old logging chain to the back corners of the harrow
and left it drag, then when we were done and ready to
move to the next field we just tossed it up on the harrow
and moved on. That was on a three point mounted 12
harrow

That sounds good. All I really want to do is smooth out the ridges of fluffy soil.
