Hauling

I need a 7000lb mini excavator hauled from ca to ma. It is 8"3" tall and 15"3" long and 60" wide.

normally one would find a ride & cost for it before buying it on the opposite coast. it may well cost far more than its worth after hauling it that far.

Rough guess of 2,000 miles at minimum of $3.00 per mile. Might want to reconsider selling it right where it is and buying another.

I'm with Rusty, it is going to cost a small fortune to haul it back if it is not combined with some other loads. You can try to Google motor carriers and hotshots that do this every day. You may be able to get it combined into another load and get it closer to home, then another method of transportation may be required to get it all the way to its final destination. (ie: hotshot from CA to OH, you go to OH and pull it to MA)

The going rate is between $2.00 and $3.00 loaded mile, unless the machine is new or very sentimental or VERY CHEAP, you will give your right nut to have it hauled on a dedicated load.

Example. I went two weeks ago and picked up a 7400 lb tractor I bought 350 miles away. I left at 530 am, took my time and stopped around there and back, arrived back at home at 1000 pm. 700 mile round trip, 350 miles loaded, cost me $228 in gasoline... Just gas, personal trip. Probably would have cost me about $700-$800 to have someone get it for me.

Hiring it done will require someone to load it, too in California, then unloading it in MA. You will need someone to run things in California. It will have to run to be able to load it cheaply. You can load it on a semi trailer by first getting it up on a roll off wrecker then drive it onto the trailer.

Also keep in mind that since it stands over 8 feet tall, it will need to be transported on a "low-boy" type trailer, which further reduces the possibilities.

Funny listening to you guys you would think this was gonna
be difficult! Already here cost $2500 to get it here in an
enclosed trailer. Saved $7300 over best east coast price! Got
three more tractors from the Midwest getting delivered
tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration!

Brian,

Glad you got her home. But, you did not tell us the details of the load.
There are many determining factors when having stuff hauled. If someone is already there or going to be near the pick up, that makes it cheaper. If they have other stuff on the load instead of just your load, it lowers the cost.
Sometimes we luck out and find someone that just wants to cover cost on a back haul.
Let us know the details and that will explain how you got it home for that price.

You did well for $2500 Brian. I'm curious to know how? I don't think I could have pulled it for $2500 if I owned it. Keep us posted on how the other loads come though.
