Hay is baled

Yesterday was a good day for hay. It's been years since I've made completely dry hay, and ironically it happened in a "wet" year. One small piece left to go for 1st cutting. Only 3 weeks behind the BTOs.

When I parked the baler at 2PM I wished the rest of it was raked and ready to go, but not now. It would be sitting out there in bales getting rained on. What I made yesterday is safely in barns.

This year the tedder has been proving invaluable. Unlike your conditioner, which just picks the hay up and lays it back down, the tedder brings the damper hay up from the bottom and puts it on top. Everything I've made has been tedded two or three times.

Jon, glad you got the hay up OK I'm about 60 or so miles north of you around McGregor and we had over 1-1/2" in that time rained almost every day last week. Now they're talking 4-5" for this coming week, we've had a wet June should be cutting but sure doesn't pay to now and who knows how long it will take to firm up the ground. There's a lot of hay but looks like it will be old hay.

Same for me around Mankato. I have about 1000 bales dry and safe. That's from that break we had a month ago.
Rain, rain, rain since then. Have about 2000 first cutting to go. Not much quality there.
