Haybine on a 8n

I was sondering, can I run a ford 8n on a haybine?

My experience is that a haybine doesn't take that much power. Way less than a discbine, plus they weigh a lot less. I would try one first, a 7 footer of course. On second thought It would be better to just go out and get a nice one or a new one, and then you just might have a solid reason to acquire a bigger newer tractor.

I doubt it, plus without a live pto, it would make a difficult job worse. You need 35 hp minimum. Ben

Nope, done it both ways, I'll take a haybine any day!

I'd look for a different tractor though. Most haybines have hydraulic lift for the cutting head run off a remote. Plus most require more HP than an N has by at least 10HP. I run a 14' cut swing arm bine on a 112 HP tractor. Cuts well at 5-8 MPH ground speed. While not extremely heavy you can feel it behind a 7K LBS tractor. If you want to run a bine I'd suggest a tractor new enough to have a least one set of remotes and 40 plus HP. If you want to stay with Ford a 3000 or 4000 diesel would be my picks. They say you can run a 7' bine on about 25 HP but weight is an issue on hilly ground.
