Haybine question

Does anyone know what horsepower tractor you need to run a gehl 2170 haybine? I have a Ford 1920 with 28.5 PTO horsepower and didn"t know if this would handle it ok.

I think you will find your self under powered to run the haybine. the ford 2600 is a 38hp tractor and around 35 at the draw bar. the ford 1920 is 28hp at the draw bar. rule of thumb when it comes to hay equipment is 35hp. but i have seen my grandfather make hay with a john deere modle B but then he was using a sickle mower either way it cant hurt to try but you may find you need more hp. good luck

A 1920 is a compact tractor... It probably has enough h.p. (if you go slow) but it doesn't have the weight of a real farm tracor. The 2600 mentioned is actually rated at 32 pto h.p. - not much more than your 1920, but it has a lot more beef to it. I'd avoid a compact if you have hills of any significance. Give it a try, if your fields are fairly flat.
