What sealer to use on head gasket before install?

Non if your using a graphite head gasket , only metal. Permatex copper won't stick to Graphite .
Not necessary if you had the head and block resurfaceed.
Best to check the manufacturer instructions of the head gasket for recommendations always .

This could vary. What’s the application and are you using an oem gasket or just send a picture of the gasket

If not graphite coated permatex copper spray-a-gasket is usually what I use

What sealer to use on head gasket before install?

I spray both sides with "Copper Coat" spray, install the head, go through a 3 segment x pattern starting in the center of the head, torque to speck, put the valve lines in and set the gaps, put the valve cover on and never look back....never had to go back.

Best to read the service manual, I have done one that called for ultra grey silicone in a very specific pattern, just proves there are some oddballs out there
