Hearing Aids again

Wife and I have been wearing hearing aids for about 10 years. Our first pairs were battery powered and a PIA when batteries died especially at critical or interesting moments.
We now use rechargeable hearing aids. They can be controlled either by touching the aid or using the bluetooth connection of our cell phones. They can also allow hands free talking and hearing the cell phone even across a room. We keep our battery aids as emergency backups.

Just went to restaurant with friends and it was noisy and this restaurant had the tv turned up, I can hear everything but the people at my table.

I bought Costco aids and they were not real effective. I finally went to an ear ,nose and throat specialist and had my ears tested and also had an MRI and it turns out radiation and chemo around the neck cancer caused auditory neuropathy. So I went to a professional hearing aid facility and had the aids reset and use an app on my phone to set according to the noise levels. Not perfect but I can hear better. Take home message is go to hearing aid specialist and have you aids set and get an app on your phone.

After spending thousands over the years I finally gave up. Several months ago I saw an ad for Volt Bogo 300 from MD Hearing. They are behind the ear which gives you a large container for larger batteries (longer life) than the ones completely contained in the ear channel. They are $300 for the pair including charger...no more batteries to replace, one of my big problems with aids.

My hearing loss, years ago was - 90 dBc (audiogram detection) and was mainly in the 2k to 4k Hz. frequency....just happens to be the range of most female voices.....faking hearing loss syndrome was an excellent way to get out of having to do distasteful honey-dos....ha.

I highly recommend them.

I read tons of good reviews about Costco hearing aids, not really sure how expensive or not very they are. Anyone tried over the counter hearing aids maybe? What can you guys say about those? Why there is such a huge price difference between the prescription and over the counter hearing aids? The technology is still the same, right?
