at 80 years old it is time to get hearing aids I'm looking for rechargable ones at a reasonable price

DO not purchase NANO brand hearing aids. I did they quit within (supposed) warrantee but no help at all. One just quit, the other split in half when taking it out by its little pull sprout. I do believe in amplifiers. I would look carefully at the images because I believe the NANO brand is also found packaged as other names. I have behind the ear 4000 dollar aids (cost with hearing tests) and though they work, they can be problem with glasses and welding helmet bands. They are also more affected by wind. I find the in canal aids easier and more directional than behind the ear. Less than 200 US, and more than 100 for a pair is about right. Adjust the feel in your ear canal so they are comfortable (get use to the feel for a few days) not tight and definitely not loose is best. I am confident you will enjoy better hearing. Expect to keep wax out of your canals daily to prevent plugging up the emitter in your ear. Either in canal, or behind the ear can plug up and become an issue. Don't wear them sleeping in bed! Don't wear them when subjected to hammering on metal, or around loud equipment that you would normally wear protection around. My loss is from ge, shotgun and mag rifles as well as engine and machine operation. Do it. Jim

Have had hearing aids for about 15 years. Not deaf, but mostly can't hear/understand TV and folks talking using loud speakers; i.e., church, public ceremonies, etc. Thought after current hearing aids went bad (one got broken) of the nano or other cheapies but finally went with a more expensive behind the ear that plug into the ear. Like Janicholson said, they are not too compatible with eye glasses but I am learning to live with them. They do help a lot. There are two settings on them and while running a combine recently it seemed I was getting a lot of unwanted noise so I switched them to the other setting and there was a remarkable difference but I could still hear OK. At age 80 I am thinking that maybe someone else can get some use from them after I no longer need them because of the design.

Are you paying for them yourself out-of-pocket or are you working with an insurance company (50-50 co-pay up to a limit)? Your insurance company might have an approved list of providers.

Had mine two and a half years, Starkey brand, pricey but my Medicare supplement picked up 3/4 of the cost. Had some minor problems, left one held a charge for about ten hours and would quit, repaired under warranty.They came with a five year warranty. Prices have come down a lot since I got mine. When it comes time to replace them I think Ill just go to Costco. They advertise rechargeables at $1200 to $1700. I dont wear them when I blow snow or cut lawn or run the power saws. When I shoot at the range I take them out and wear plugs and muffs and hand the range officer a card that states my condition, basically deaf so he will have to get my attention some other way. Take them out if you take a nap. They arent waterproof so wear a head cover that covers your ears when necessary. Good luck!

Costco have rechargeable ones and they are pretty good as well as reasonably priced.

I have had hearing aids for many year, several brands and now using ones from Costco. But, a bit of advice, you will occasionally need help (service), so chose a provider that is fairly close, like in the city where you get gas, groceries, doctors, etc.. My Costco is 50-60 miles away, kinda expensive and time consuming to get a little (abeit low cost) help.

My wife just got hers locally, much more expensive but well fitted and has some cost to help visits, but convenient and less driving.

It is nice to hear birds, TV, rain on the roof...lol...and the quiety when you take them out...lol. Leo

After 4 sets of cheap to moderate cost including VA 2 sets, I went for good ones from Phonac on a lease plan , After four years you get new ones. Include four times a year service but can go anytime for cleaning and service. Had them now two years and can't say enough good about them. No more cheapies for me

The VOLT by MD HearingAid.com out of Chicago. $300 and work like a charm....spoken by a guy that has probably put $10k in aids over the years and been dissatisfied. When you get them you put them in the charger and the Blue LED illuminates turning Green when charged. After inserting in your ear, don't forget to turn up the volume control...they are shipped with it all the way down......put mine on and no sound, aw shucks........what could be wrong.........turned up the volume control and wow. Great on background noises, wind, and are comfortable.

The ad was kind of confusing in that when ordering it seemed that they were $300 each.....not so....$300 for the pair plus they come with a maintenance kit. They advertise a maintenance kit and when I bought mine had a free special give away price on one as an incentive to make the purchase.......well with the one that comes with the product, you now have 2 and it seems that they will last forever.

Phonac is a good brand as well as ReSound.
