49 8N Front Mount Distributor 6 Volt, all original. Was having problem with starting. Had spark although somewhat weak. Checked points, was gapped correctly. Cleaned with dollar bill and reinstalled. Seemed a little stronger spark and started with difficulty. Next day would not start. Had purchased a carb rebuild kit several yrs ago so decided to install because shaft seemed to have excessive play. Replaced throttle shaft and plate, needle valve and seat and gasket.Used carb cleaner and blew out all passages. Did not replace adjustment needles or make any adjustment to same. Reinstalled making sure surfaces and gasket were smooth and clean. Started but with difficulty. Engine was badly overspeeding and throttle lever provided no control. Shut down immediately. Removed carb again and visually inspected and everything looked proper. Restarted this morning with same result. Can't let run to observe linkages because of overspeeding. What is the problem, what have I screwed up and hopefully I don't have governor problems. I have had this old tractor for 10 years and have solved many problems but this has me baffled.
