Helicoils on head bolts?

Removed the heads on my 335 minnie, and took them in for a valve job, was cleaning up the jug surface to replace the heads, and found three bolt holes with stripped threads, on the jugs. Will properly installed Helicoils, stand up to 95-100 ft. lb. of torque? or do I have to locate two jugs? Nothing ever goes the way it's supposed to! WHINE.

if done right helicoils are actualy stronger than regular threads because they are a bigger dia. i dont know if they will hold up with vibration of engine ,give it a try

I recieved an E-mail from Mike May in Kansas, saying to go for it, with the Helicoil, and now Mike Bock says the same thing. With two Mikes beliving in their integrity ( Helicoils ), then I think I will get a 1/2 in. kit, and remove the jugs, so I can put them on my drill press, and get a straight ream on the holes, and see how it works. Also any shavings will not be in the oil pan. Thanks guys!

I used a permacoil on my M670 Super on the fender bolt. I dont know if that would hold up any better. Greatful for those things!

I am running Model "R" Avery with IXB3SL Hercules engine with 4 helicoils on head bolts. I did use thread sealer because they go too water jacket. Have no problem in 4 yrs.Hope this helps P.Luna

I used helicoils in three bolts that held the starter on a V8 Detroit diesel, with an aluminum bell housing. It lasted for years, and was still in it, and working when I got rid of it.

you may want to use studs instead of bolts, if possible. the repaired area will only have stress under tension while you are threading compared to both twisting and tension.
