Hi everyone. I'm brand new here, so I just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself.
My Name is Juergen, and I'm in Central FLORIDA.
I've been a mechanic for the first half of my life, and I was a math teacher for the last 20 years until I retired last year.
I don't know much about tractors other than basic stuff about old European macjines...Eicher, Deutz, Porsche, etc.
I do own a 1949 Deutz tractor though. It runs and drives, but I really haven't been able to even start it for the last 5 years or so. It just sits in the garage and is pretty much original except, it was brush-painted in the late 70's just to make it look a little better. It has been in the family since 1953 when my father aquired it from a Deutz dealership in Germany, where I was born and raised as well.
The tractor is a one cylinder Diesel, crank start, and watercooled. I always wanted to go through it when I was retired, but I don't think my health will allow it. So it sits...
Anyways. Greetings from Florida, and thank you for allowing me to be part of this forum.
Til next time.
Juergen

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for everyone's warm welcome!
I will post some pictures of the Deutz as soon as I can. There are about 20 Mopeds and Motorcycles stored in front of it so I have to move all them out in order to get the tractor out in the open for pictures. It's going to be a little bit of a chore, but I had planned on doing this anyway. It needs to come out, and breathe some frech air! It's been 5 years since I had it running and drove it. Unrelated to nnalert, I got very ill, and just know have recovered well enough to do some light chores...but I will get to it by this summer or sooner, provided my health allows it. At least, it wasn't carelessly left out in the elements. Aside from some air in the tires, it probably doesn't need much to run again. Although, I'm planning on an oil and coolant change, and cleaning the fuel tank. I just don't know how the Diesel in the tank held up. I do know that gasoline would have destroyed itself by now. Just never had to deal with 5-year old Diesel. Not sure how it behaves. This is actually the first batch of modern Diesel that was ever in it. So if anyone has any comments on aging Diesel, or any experience with that, I appreciate comments and/or suggestions. Doing what needs to be done is not going to be an issue. Afterall, I've known and serviced it for the last 45 years or so. Lol!
Thank you everyone!

The most important factor to how diesel will age is how full the tank is. more air means more condensation. Without air going in and out, regular diesel will last nearly indefinitely. Much better than gasoline.

single cylinder , pretty neat ,like a lantz bulldog tractor I think .
Hi 560Dennis. Not quite like the Lanz...similar looks but the Deutz is smaller. The Lantz was a biest!...it had a single 2-cycle Diesel motor, where the Deutz was a 4-cycle Diesel. The Deutz has a crank to start it with, if you're strong enough...the Lantz was actually started with its own Steering wheel. Diconnect the steering wheel, stick it in the right side of the crank shaft, and spin...they make it look easy... it isn't! Just trust me! 😂
