I got myself into one today. Trying to fix a leak from the Hyd into the rear housing. It is a friends and he thought it was the 3 pt cyl leaking so I pulled the top cover. I found some pieces on the pto shaft. One is definitely a seal another is a seal housing that goes on the back side of the top shaft of trans. From the parts site I think I am missing parts 8,9,&10,. From the pieces I have and the parts book I can't figure out how the housing is held in place nor how it seals the hyd oil from coming around the outside of the housing.
I am starting to wonder if the seal is only to hold a little oil to lub the bearings and the loss of hyd oil into the rear housing may still be the 3 point cylinder.
Any insight would be appreciated, I am at a loss.

That does hold the oil in the input shaft. there is another seal in between the range trans and main that keeps the hyd in the range and out of the main. I did this job on a 630 a year ago and found mine as you described. Had to get the housing that the rear seal goes in from parts tractor. It just drives in the end of the input shaft. If the arms stayed up over night, the piston seals are probably OK.. hth

Well aware of the problem with the PTO shaft seal retainer, usually they don't look so good after they get by the ring gear. For all the work it is take the PTO and shaft out, You may be able to reuse the carrier, It drives over the end of the mainshaft.

There is an oil retainer that fits inside the bearing bore to keep oil at the rear bearing, Is that one piece that is out of place? At any rate, the oil slot in the retainer should point to one of the oil channels in the casting, the left side should flow the most oil. Be sure to clean, degrease and use the best Loctite to reinstall the seal carrier, be very careful to get it started straight when driving it then drive the seal as the final step.

If done properly it should not move.

It was the carrier / housing and the seal. Part of the seal was in the bottom of case and the other part was on the shaft. The retainer/carrier/ housing was wore pretty good where it rattled against the ring gear. I am glad you mentioned lock tight; I was considering using it but wasn't sure but now I know to.
I also took the piston out of 3 pt; I hope it is where the tran was gaining oil. It was really easy to move in the bore. It did not seem snug enough to seal but really it is a shot in the dark.
Do you know how difficult it is to replace the seal between the hyd unit and the trans case and how many places there are where it could be leaking.
Thanks again!
