step dad is traveling a few cities north of us today, and came across a roadside .. ? yard sale / flea market.. etc. not much there, but he did see a front wheel weight set.. they said fomo co on them.. 4 pieces.

called me and mom took some pics and sent em to me.. I asked them for the number cast on the weights.. they said most of them were hard to read and a lil beat, but might be:

c5nn 1 n 000 abw

guy wanted 75$ .. stepdad says he can get them for 50 probably. he will be passing back by there this afternoon on the way home. was wondering if they would fit that 850 we now have a backhoe on.. ie.. 16" rims.. or?

when you say thick, you mean too much weight, or the bolt holes in the rims won't line up?

at 50 $, if they will fit my 4600 that might be nice too. if my s/dad can get em for 50$ I can get them from him at the end of the week when I get paid. wheel weights are non existant around here, and that sounds like a fair price.

Bolt holes should line up, but I was thinking there wouldn't be enough room between the rim and spindle on a rim that narrow. $50 would be a good price. Even $75 wouldn't be bad.

Been looking on NH's site a bit... lists all front wheel weights for '65-up (except industrial) as 43 lb./segment, and same p/n for all models, but it looks like newer number - maybe the c5nn was superceeded?. Haven't found a p/n for prior models yet.

ok, I see what ya are getting at.

guess they won't mount on the outside of the rim will they.. ( as you can tell.. I'm not familiar with wheel weights!!.. we just never see em down here... )

so they mount to the inside of the rim.. hmm..

stepdad tells me he can get em for 50.. if they will fit my 4600 that's great as it had a wheels-in-the-sky problem when laoding with that huge heavy mower. loaded fronts and them cast weights help.. but some more weight would be fine... any ideas what those weigh?

ps.. thanks for the help you always provide.

with these newer machines i'm in unfamiliar teritory.. anything past 64 and i'm just dabbling.. :)

Buy them. They are a steal at $75.

They look to be a so-called "light" set.

Should fit any vintage Fords with four hole 16" front rims. No problem with spindles.

nice.

stepdad just got them for 50$

I think he's gonna let me have them before I pay him too.. :)

told my stepdad to get em.. he paid 50$.. sounds like a great deal then.

so are these the 43#/segment ones FF is talking about?

sounds like a great deal.

gonna head over and pick them up from my parents place now.

soundguy

Great deal.

They appear to be the 35 Lb. segments (70 Lb. pair) weights but it is not possible to determine conclusively from the photos.

just got back from my partents house. when i got there my s-dad already had them wire brushed and red-oxide primed and was mixing some black paint up... see where I get this from. he's always played on old iron.. but he like yellow iron...

when i get them home I'll weight them and see what they are. were still wet when i got there.

either way.. light or heavy.. sound slike the price was a great deal.

Just never see wheel weights down here for some reason.. glad to find them.

I bought a set identical to those weights from my neighbor and put them on my 5000. I have another set on my 851 but they don't have any FoMoCo or casting number identification.

i got them in the back of my truck now setting on a piecve of board so no paint xfers over to my bed.

dug around and rummaged up some carriage bolts to mount them.

I would recommend the proper square headed bolts.

If you use carriage bolts, verify adequate clearance to the spindles and use anti sieze on the nuts as there will no way to keep the bolts from turning years from now when you must remove them in order to repair a tire or pack the wheel bearings.

I was looking at that and here is what I have come up with, and want your opinion on. (please)

I have plenty of surplus 1/2" x 4" carriage bolts from a long ago project. they are gr2 and bright zinc coated.

I took one and ground the head flat on 2 opposed sides so that they fit down, including square shank under head, into the square recesses.

They look like they will hold good with really no way to slip due to the rest of the head profile in the recess.

oem bolts are 1/2"x13 gr2 x 3.75 pn 23108S43

they are 15.35$ EACH at my local dealer, and must be ordered in multiples of 5.. thus I would need to buy 10 of them to get 8 fasteners.. that would be 153.50, not including tax, plus the special order shipping my dealer will charge.

simply can't afford 160$ of bolts to mount em the right way.. even IF I was working steady, that's still more than 3x we paid for the weights... kinda hard to justify that price IMHO..

think my workaround will work?

Ps I got an industrial size container of neverseize on the shelf. pretty much all fasteners I work with either get neverseize or loctite.. :)

Should work so long as the heads are secured within the channels so that they cannot turn.

I've bought the OEM Ford bolts in the past but no longer do so. Rather, I order generic square headed black annodized bolts from my local fastener supplier in bulk. If memory serves, I can buy 8 for less than $5.00.

Dean

hmm.. hadn't thought about a 'generic' square head bolt.

we have a fastenal in the next city up.. will call them. they are a non stocking storefront. everything is order only unless you want a couple common items.

yep I did a test fit on the one bolt I made, and there is no way for the head to spin without it shearing off the remaining 2 'ears' that are left over after grinding the head rectangular.
