Help identify 3000 tractor

My friend brought over a ford 3600 he bought at an auction that has 3 point issues. Trying to figure out what it is to order parts. the hood has a 3600 decal, there is no numbers found under the hood in the normal place, It has a front end loader on it and is bolted over the place they stamp the numbers on the transmission by the starter. I believe it might be a 3000 as it has the old style hydraulic single position lever. It has dry brakes with a hand lever on the left side. it has a 4 speed transmission with 3 ranges on the right shifter for a total of 12 forward gears. I have never seen the 3 ranges before. anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a Frankentractor made of parts form different tractors. They are not uncommon as the parts were fairly easy to interchange form one generation of tractor to the next.

Are you sure that the middle position on the range shifter isn't neutral?

Is it possible to remove the shifter assembly and not get the high/low range stick back in the wrong place so it it can't go to neutral?

I have 4 fords with the hi lo lever. this tractor actually does drive with 3 different speeds in the range selector. it has high and low, then what appears to be a creeper gear giving it 4 more gears. In the farthest forward position it goes very slow. would be perfect for tilling. I agree it does have a bunch of mixed up parts. Not sure if what ford tractor similiar size ever had the 3 ranges

Does the range shifter have 3 positions or 4
If 3 positions the middle one is neutral and its a standard hi- low
If 4 positions it has the optional creeper gears one doesnt see often
Easy way to tell if its a 3000 or 3600 is the oil fill
3000 oil fill is on the valve cover
3500 oil fill is on the right side of the timing gear housing just in front of the injection pump
On the rear axles mounting flange where it bolts to the transmission are stamped numbers giving the axles build date

I had forgotten about the creeper gear option as they are so rare. According to the parts site, that option wasn't introduced until the xx10 series, so the trans would be from a 2610/3610 or later. Or maybe the parts site is wrong and the creeper gear was available in the x600 series as well?

What are the numbers on the sticker under the hood and stamped into the flat spot on the bell housing? Do they match?

Some of the post-thousand series Narrow and Vineyard models still used the earlier style lift cover with the single handle and the small mode selector lever, so it might be a a 3600 Narrow or Vineyard model with the creeper gear, or maybe with a transmission swapped in from a 3610 with the creeper gear.

This is what you have I think. Pretty rare over here in England, it is more for horticultural use. We did sell it on the 10 Series tractors but yours is on a Y Series I suspect from the single lever hydraulic control.

My parts box list the reduction gears for the -000 series, but the part numbers start with D9NN leading me to think they were introduced near the end of the -600 model run
There are actually two different ones, 5.57:1 ratio and 10:1 ratio

I would like to have one with 5.57:1 ratio for use in my poultry barns, I'm operating my decaker a 1.3 mph and need to be a 1 mph

So it might be a proper 3600 Narrow or Vineyard model with the creeper option then. I've seen some vineyard tractors geared pretty low for harvesting the grapes.

I agree this must be what is in it. I did find numbers on the bell housing on opposite side of starter just under the hydraulic pump. Do these mean anything?

8 = 1968
K = October
01 = 1st of the month
B = Day shift.

So it is a Y series, what we over here call a Ford Force tractor.

That is the assembly date for the transmission, and I believe that 8 at the beginning is for 1978, not 1968, but you can never be sure, but I don't think that they offered the creeper gear in 1968.

8K01B could also be for a 78 model so more info is needed
Without knowing the actual model code one would need to look at the differences between the models
3000 oil fill on the valve cover
3600 oil fill on right front corner of timing gear case
3000 has oil bath air cleaner
3600 after 7-/76 has paper air filter
3000 has transmission oil check plug
3600 has dip stick in shift top
3600 has engine driven tach drive located below the oil filter but that can be added to later 3000s

Creeper gears were available here in 1968 on the Y Series. They could be fitted back to
1965 X Series if bought as an add in extra.

In 1968 it would be a single lever hydraulic control, by 78 it would be 600 Series and have two lever hydraulics.

The only way to be sure is by the serial number. As you say, it could be made up from bits from two tractors.
