Help identify A or B

I purchased this tractor and another off ebay and
will pick them up later this week. This is a
picture of what the seller believes to be a slant
dash A. Others I have talked to think its a B.
What do you all think. By the way the other tractor
is a B as well.

I think that tractor is an A Because on a B the gusset on the bottom of the frame comes to within 2 inches of the end of the valve cover And on this tractor it centers on the head.

It's a B made between SN 136662 and 166999 (supposedly). See the cast frame? Pressure cooling was from 148500-166999, can't tell what you've got from the pic.
If the powerlift would happen to be original (and still had it's tag) you might be able to narrow it down some more.
Hope this helps.

I"m an AC guy that farms with JD, collect both, but if it should be a "slant dash A", shouldn"t it have a slant dash? Looks very vertical to me, just like the 3 I have.

Frame and engine look too big to be a b. Another thing I know you can do on the newer tractors is, remove cap for engine oil fill. On a b you cannot see the reduction gears down in the case. On the a they are right there. I would think its the same on the older ones.If not someone will update us.

They are both B's. The long hood is a 1945, and the shorter is at best a guess without being able to see the frame, seat and axle housing. The long hood is relatively rare- they were only produced for a year or so and had the battery just forward of the gauge cluster. A slant dash is a year or so newer. The muffler and the distance between the valve cover and air cleaner gives it away as a B; an A has a rounded top muffler and a B has a longer pipe above the main body of the muffler; and the A air cleaner appears to be much closer to the valve cover than the B's.
